Training Equipment

Each swimmer should have their own set of training equipment.

KICKBOARD

PURPOSE:

Kickboards are an invaluable tool used for training and drill work. During drill work, kickboards provide balance and high body position in the water allowing the swimmer to focus on form and technique.

Size is not as important in a kickboard. It may be easier for very young age group swimmers to use the Jr. board, but the standard adult size will work too.

PULL BUOY

pull-bouy

PURPOSE:

Helps swimmer develop:

  • Upper body strength
  • Proper alignment in the water
  • Held between legs to neutralize kicking motion and increase upper body strength

FINS

PURPOSE::

Using training fins help swimmers develop

  • Ankle flexibility
  • Leg strength
  • “Muscle memory”  – swimmer will be more aware of their kick once the fins are removed, thus developing a stronger kick

SNORKEL

snorkle

PURPOSE:

Using the snorkel to train/drill allows swimmers to work on maintaining a lower head position – an essential element of good form in the freestyle.  The bent shape decreases the amount of water swimmers get in the snorkel during flip turns.

PADDLES
